Does anyone know if there has ever been a book written about the history of British film criticism?
I would assume there has but I don't recall anything. But then apparently there had never been a satisfactory book about the history of the BFI until Geoffrey Nowell-Smith's recent one.
There seems to have been ones about American and French criticism, so considering Britain is arguably the third 'major power' in this field perhaps it's overdue.
